Rev Johnnie Monroe Jordan

Rev. J.M. Jordan, 92, of Clifton, died Saturday night, July 23, 1988, in Goodall-Witcher Hospital, Clifton.  Services were held at 2 pm, Tuesday, July 26, at First Baptist Church in clifton with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.  Born July 9, 1896, in Meridian, Johnnie was the son of the late Homer E. & Sarah Lester Jordan.  He went to school in Meridian, and graduated from Meridian College.  He then graduated from Baylor University in Waco, in 1930, with a degree in Bible & English.  On April 8, 1917, he was married to Vivian Burdick at Waco.  Rev. lived in Bosque County for several years, where he pastored churches beofre moving to Dallas.  He worked for Sears for many years, before becoming a chaplain at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, a position he held for 14 years.  After retiring, the Jordans moved to Clifton in 1977, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton.  Rev. J.M. had pastored churches in Oklahoma, Vernon, Amarillo, Meridian, among other places.  Pallbearers were Gene Hudgins, Nathan Johnson, Gene Creamer, Joe Crosley, Joe Enochs, Walter Draper, Merrill Brigance, and Rollie Kuntz.  Honorary pallbearer was L.B. Vance.  Survivors inlcude:  his wife, Vivian of Clifton; 3 daughters:  Dorothy Goodman of Isle of Palms, SC, Lucille Lewis of Dallas, and Janie Bryan of Fredericksburg; 3 sisters:  Arabella Brantley of Meridian, Wanda Lilliard, and Mary Baldridge, both of Waco; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
