James Clabe Goings

James Clabe Goains, age 83, or Meridian, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1989, in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton.  Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 pm in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. R.L. Whitworth and Rev. O.H. Dockery officiating.  Burial was in the Meridian Cemetery.  James was the osn of the late Thomas Ovie Goains, and Florence Elizabeth Foster Goains.  He was born June 23, 1906, in Pottsville, AR.  He moved at the age of 3 to Iredell, where he was raised.  He went to school in Spring Creek.  On Dec. 23 1923, James united in marriage to Rosey Bradley at Iredell.  She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 1977.  James was a former resident of Walnut Springs, McGregor, and Merkel.  He had lived in Meridian for the past 42 years and worked as a carpenter until he retired.  He was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.  Survivors are 3 daughters:  Minnie Guinn of Meridian, Beatrice Paulson of Waco, and Doris Eckols of Waco; 1 son:  Joe C. Goains of Waco; 3 half sisters:  Ophillia Goains of Meridian, Lovella Johnson of Ft. Worth, and Lillie Bonds of Clifton; 3 half brothers:  O’Neal Goains of Ft. Worth, James Earl Goains, and J.E. Goains, both of Meridian; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Michael Goains, Darrell Goains, Billy Paulson, Johnny Riddle, Dean Engeal, and Dwight Goains.
