Levi Lewis

Mr. Levi (Buddy) Lewis, 78, of Morgan died Monday, December 23, at a Meridian
nursing home. He was born January 21, 1924 in Ben Franklin, son of John Franklin
and Lillie Bridges Lewis. He grew up in Gilmer where he attended school. He
worked in the CCC camp when he was 15 and worked on the construction of Tyler
State Park. He moved to South Texas when he was 18 and entered the Marine Corp.
He married Louise Scott May 27, 1944 in Velasco. He served two tours of duty with
the Marines during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked for Dow Chemical
for over 15 years and then worked in construction until retiring in February 1986. He
moved to Hillsboro in 1975 and to Lake Whitney in 1986. He was a member of Cedar
Shores Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, and a member
of IBEW Local Union 716 in Houston. He was preceded in death by his sister,
Louise Sorelle, in 1998. Survivors include: his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Donnie A. Lewis and wife, Evelyn, of Texarkana, and Steve Lewis and wife, Sunzera,
of Whitney; one daughter, Sue Balan and her daughters, Bindu and Sindu; nine grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December
26, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Reverend
Kenneth James officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near
Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to Cedar Shores Baptist Church, 277 CR 1500,
